I write…a lot.

I write with dogs wrapped around my feet. I get to wear sandals or bedroom slippers to work, and old, comfortable clothes. When the weather is fine, I get to write on my back porch. I love summer. I started getting published when I was twelve, studied journalism at Northern Illinois University, and then went to work as a news reporter…eventually for Scripps Howard, where I managed their Western Kentucky bureau. Getting itchy feet, I moved to Wisconsin and went to work for TSR, Inc., the then-producers of the Dungeons & Dragons game. I wrote Dragonlance tales for several years and reached the USA Today’s Bestseller list several times.

I’ve written forty-five or so novels (along with a couple of ghosted projects … shhh!), more than a hundred short stories, and I’ve edited more magazines and anthologies than I care to count. Right now, it’s all about mysteries…thrillers, suspense, and uncozy-cozies.

I am a recipient of the Faust, the Grand Master Award from the International Association of Media Tie-In Writers. My novel, The Bone Shroud, won the 2019 Illinois Author Project competition, voted on by librarian judges across the state. And The Love-Haight Case Files, that I wrote with Donald J. Bingle, hit #1 on Amazon. That about sums up my writing accomplishments, more than enough to Snoopy dance about.

I attend game conventions–I am a geek about boardgames and rpgs, visit interesting and quirky museums, and at every reasonably good opportunity I toss tennis balls for my cadre of dogs. Writers and dogs go great together. Mine get me away from the keyboard and show me how very important it is to chase butterflies.
